Empowering Borderland Communities to Thrive Amidst Climate Challenges

Climate Resilient Borderlands Horn of Africa (CRBi)

Making a Difference in the Horn of Africa

At Climate Resilient Borderlands Horn of Africa (CRBi), we are a locally registered civil society organization dedicated to combatting the challenges posed by climate change in Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa.

Our mission is to implement innovative solutions that build resilience in vulnerable communities, while our values drive us to empower women, embrace evidence-based strategies, and ensure sustainability. With deep academic roots, our projects are grounded in rigorous research, designed to address the complex impact of climate change on migration, development, conflict, and more.

What We Do

Building Resilient Communities

Our experts collaborate with local leaders and scholars to design evidence-based projects that empower communities to withstand climate challenges.

Empowering Migrant Women and Girls

We focus on elevating the voices and opportunities of women and girls affected by climate-related migration, enabling them to thrive in changing landscapes.

Climate Change and Mitigation

CRBi employs cutting-edge strategies to mitigate climate change effects, creating sustainable solutions that protect both people and the environment.

Developing Human Capacity

Through partnerships with Maastricht University and Addis Ababa University, we provide internship programs that equip young scholars to lead climate resilience initiatives.

Why Borderlands?

CRBi implements projects in the peripheral borderland areas of Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa more broadly. Borderland communities have been marginalized and excluded from development processes. Furthermore, it is the lowland borderland areas, which are affected disproportionally by climate change impacts, climate-related displacement and conflict over resources. We focus specifically on climate change consequences and their effect on migration, displacement, economic development, job creation, health, education, conflict, peacebuilding, gender empowerment, livelihoods and agriculture. Besides project implementation, CRBi also provides research, consultancy, and capacity-building services to restore social structures and basic needs that have been affected by climate change impacts.
